Christmas Charity 2015
We had a Christmas Jumper Day/Non Uniform Day on Tuesday 22nd December and asked for a €1.00 donation from the children for charity, instead of gifts for teachers. The nominated charity was the Dyslexia Association of Ireland. (Naas/Newbridge Branch). A total of €430 was raised and all monies raised will go to the Naas/Newbridge DAI Branch
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland (DAI) has been working with and for people with dyslexia since 1972. As you are aware, research suggests 10% of our population is affected by some level of dyslexia. Its aims are to improve the provision of services for children and adults with related reading, writing and spelling difficulties. It has a national membership of 3,000 families and teachers.
The Naas/Newbridge Branch is affiliated to the DAI. The branch is run by a voluntary committee consisting of parents of children with dyslexia. The branch provides an information and support group for parents, and learning support for both primary and secondary school children with dyslexia.

Peace Proms RDS 2016
Our 3rd class will be taking part in a musical education programme called “Peace Proms”. We will be performing at the RDS DUBLIN on February 6th 2016. The children will take place in a workshop on 12th January in preparation for the event.
Peace Proms aims to entertain, educate and engage children and young people in music and to enrich their lives through exceptional musical experiences and performances. The project objective is to help young people to develop qualities of self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, and confidence by giving them the opportunity to:
- Perform with a full symphony orchestra
- Work with leading professional conductors and musicians
- Perform in premier venues throughout Ireland
- Develop vocal technique, presentation and performance
- Experience a variety of musical styles and genres and develop an appreciation of them
Peace Proms is recognised as one of Ireland’s most important Arts Education initiatives, providing outstanding cultural opportunities for young people while promoting peace, unity and tolerance through music. It is supported and endorsed by the Department of Education and Skills, the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
As this is a first for Rathmore N.S., we would like to thank Ms. Collette Larkin, Ms. Gillian Meeneghan and Ms. Margaret Maher for giving their time for this project. Good luck to all involved.
Tickets are now available for the Proms at http://peaceproms.com/buy-tickets/
They are priced at €15 each or €50 for a family of 4.
