Green Schools Update October 2025
Green Schools News
We’re so excited to have a brand-new Green Schools Committee this year, with members from Junior Infants all the way up to 6th Class! We’re working hard on earning our 9th Green Flag for Global Citizenship and Travel. During Climate Action Week, 3rd and 4th Class are joining the GLOBE Campaign to learn more about how we can care for our planet. We’re also running lots of fun activities to help reduce our emissions and make our school a greener place. Don’t forget our Witch Walk on October 23rd – a spooktacular way to get moving and help the planet at the same time! 🎃🌍

Valleymount Cross country 2025
On Tuesday the 14th of October Ms Malone, Ms Mc Donnell and 47 students set off to the foot of the Wicklow mountains to participate in the annual cross country event held in Valleymount National School. It was a huge success for Rathmore NS as we came home with 11 team medals and many individual medals also. Huge congratulations to all of the students who represented themselves and the school so well. Also a massive thank you to the teachers who accompanied the students. It was a fantastic day out for everyone involved.

EU Funding
This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to fund new laptops, new iPads and an interactive whiteboard.

Our World Awards
Ms. Malone’s 6th class were recently awarded for their participation in the 2025 Our World Awards. Supported by Irish Aid, the Our World Awards celebrate young people who are passionate about making a difference. Through their individual and class projects, 6th class demonstrated a deep commitment to being global citizens—engaging with important global challenges and showing empathy for those in different circumstances. Their project work aligns with the values of Irish Aid and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As a class, they recreated the Global Goals in a collaborative Art project. Other students worked individually and designed word searches, crosswords and Fact Files based on the Global Goals and Irish Aid countries. Well done to the 6th class students for their creativity and hard work.
World Book Day
On Friday March 6th we celebrated World Book Day. It was a huge event which all students and teachers participated in.
On the day, Ms. Lancaster held a book club in the library at lunch times which drew a great crowd. It was fantastic to see. Some of the senior classes also went into the younger classes and read with the students.
Thank you to everyone who made a massive effort on the day.
