On Friday 19th October we took part in the Valleymount Cross Country which as usual was organised very well by their National School.
We had six boys teams of four and six girls teams of four. This year teams were done by class i.e. 1st to 6th and not by age.
In order to get the chance ot represent the school we had heats for each class around our running track. Competition was fierce and “hats off†to all pupils who took part. A lot were disappointed not to make the team but the effort put in by all pupils was brilliant. If pupils go for a few runs a week I am sure they will make the school team for cross country next time around.
We were blessed with a fine day and the support received from parents to manage teams and to provide transport was heartening. Team managers were as follows: Boys: Caitriona Byrne, Deirdre Boran, Rachel Queally, Sarah McLoughlin, Paul Woods and Teresa Conneff. Girls: Maurice Cullen, Brigid Judge, Breda Carroll, Marguerite McCabe, Helen McLoughlin, David Magee.
All teams won team medals and a lot of individual medals. Thanks also to Caoimhe Jameson who collected the information at the end of each race for submission and to the local community games for the use of their bibs on the day.
