Rathmore man on the way to Washington D.C

Former Rathmore NS pupil, Jack Cantillon, has been handpicked as one of thirty students to represent Ireland and Northern Ireland in the USA this summer. Jack Cantillon will intern for Rep. Peter King as part of the Washington-Ireland Program (WIP).

Getting onto WIP was highly competitive with over five hundred students from across, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Great Britain competing for a few coveted places. Jack, who was a student at Newbridge College and is currently studying Law at Trinity College Dublin is looking forward to his once in a lifetime trip to America:

“It’s a complete honor to be selected as part of the WIP class of 2013. The alumni of the program reads like a who’s who of emerging leaders amongst Ireland’s youth. The fact the program has been supported by then Senator Barack Obama, Senator John McCain and Hilary Clinton is indicative of the huge esteem the program is held in. I hope to represent Eadestown proud over the coming months in DC.”

Hillary Clinton is a supporter of the Washington - Ireland Program and its students:

“Many of WIP’s alumni are now emerging as a new generation of leaders committed to peace, stability and prosperity in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.”

The Washington Ireland Program is a cross-community charity which offers young leaders from Ireland & Northern Ireland the opportunity to live and work in Washington D.C, while completing leadership training and public service projects.

If you would like to track Jack’s progress this summer, you’ll be able to follow his blog and view photos from this year’s Class at the programme’s website: www.wiprogram.org.
