Garda Vetting

We are always looking for parents to help with various in-school and extra-curricular activities, under the supervision of class teachers / principal. This can range from classroom help to swimming supervision, lifts to matches etc. It is a requirement that all parents helping out in-school are Garda-Vetted. The process is confidential and once the initial application is submitted by the school, the process is online.

Once submitted by the school, parents will then receive an email with an online application form to complete. Please note that this ONLINE vetting form is only issued to the applicant – the school does not have access to these forms.

If you are interested in providing help in the school, please download the New Garda Vetting Form Here, complete this form, and return it to the school principal or secretary with the required form(s) of ID. (A minimum of 100 points of ID are required – see Download ID Requirements Here).

If you have any difficulty downloading these forms, they are available from the school.

Letter to parents

I would like to bring the following points to your immediate attention as there have been a number of incidents pertaining to these below.

1. School starts at 9.00am so please ensure your children are lined up in the yard or in their classroom for that time. Latecomers interrupt the class teacher and the class as a whole.

2. Children (and parents dropping them off) should enter through the school garden in the morning and not via the front door.

3. Pupils are to be collected promptly each evening at home time

Junior & Senior Infants 1.45pm
1st to 6th Class 2.45pm

Unfortunately there have been a number of cases where this has not happened, children become upset and staff have to care for children in these cases.
4. If there is a change in pick up routine please notify us in your child’s homework diary. Ringing school and asking staff to pass messages on is not the agreed protocol, and is proving too hard to reliably manage. Naturally the school can be called in an emergency or when the unexpected happens.

5. Your child’s safety is our concern while they are in school. Help us to make school an enjoyable experience for them by keeping us up to date with changes in routine on a daily basis via the homework diary.
6. Phone calls from school – Children who forget training gear/swimming gear/information re play dates etc. will no longer be permitted to ring home during school so please ensure they understand this.
7. Pupils must have a note in their homework diary to explain absences (e.g. sickness/holidays etc) as we have to log this information on Department Returns for TUSLA. (Education Welfare Service)
8. Children who do not normally travel by bus may not do so, to travel to their friends’ houses for play dates etc. This is for insurance, health and safety, and capacity reasons amongst others. It can also lead to confusion over the whereabouts of a child. Please do not make private arrangements with bus drivers in this regard. Bus tickets are valid only for your child’s home/school/home route and no other bus routes.

9. If you need to speak to the Principal/class teacher about your child or on any matter, please make an appointment to ensure a time suitable for both parties. For urgent matters same day appointments can normally be arranged. Otherwise we would ask for 2-3 days’ notice where possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read through these points. These simple rules will help with the smooth running of the school and the safety of your child and all children while in our care.

Yours sincerely

Robbie Jameson
Principal

Fair Trade Big Breakfast Morning

[espro-slider id=2313]

On Wednesday, March 2nd Rathmore N.S hosted their first Fair Trade BIG breakfast morning. The morning was organised to celebrate Omar (a coffee production farmer from Honduras) coming to the school to give a presentation to the children. Ms. Brady, Ms. Shaw, the Green Schools Committee, Ms. Prendiville and her class organised the fantastic event. A huge amount of work went into getting the hall decorated and displaying the attractive posters and banners.  A fantastic effort was made by all the children in the school to get involved and every class and teacher contributed to the breakfast morning in some way. Fabulous treats and cakes were baked using fair trade ingredients by children in every class, and beautiful art work was proudly displayed.

It all kicked off at 10 O’ Clock, Ms Brady welcomed Gill and Michael from RTE 2 who captured the whole event for their show ‘News2day’. Other guests included Ruth from Fair Trade Ireland and Aileen from Tesco in Naas. The hall quickly filled with well-known faces from the community, parents and children from 3rd to 6th class.

The hall was a hub of excitement as children and adults sampled the various Fair Trade baked goods that were brought around proudly by the children from the Green Schools Committee.  The hall was filled with chatter and the children proudly presented each display and educated their parents about Fair Trade.  The children represented their school excellently when they were interviewed for various segments for news today. The children from Junior Infants to second class had their turn to visit the hall and be part of the event. When Omar arrived the hall erupted with delight. Ms Lancaster addressed the whole hall and made a wonderful welcoming speech and thanked everyone involved. Omar and Peter from Fair Trade Ireland spoke about Omar’s coffee production farm. The children got involved and asked Omar a range of questions. The morning was concluded with lots of photos being taken with Omar and the children went back to their class rooms. A great morning was enjoyed by all who attended.

On behalf of Rathmore School, Ms Shaw and Ms Brady would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped and contributed to the event. In particular a huge thank you to Ann Grainger from Kildare Print in Naas who provided exquisite, bright vibrant banners and posters. Thank you to Eibhlín in Alice’s Restaurant in Naas for making us a beautiful cake with the Fair Trade logo on it.   Also Brigid Judge and Síobhan Parker for volunteering their time. Ms. Prendiville and her class for their fabulous projects and help on the day.  To all the parents and wonderful people from the community for giving up their time and attending the event. Thank you to Annie Gough for capturing every moment with fabulous photographs. And finally to all the children in Rathmore School, who without their interest and participation, the event would not have been possible.
