Standardised Tests Trial

We have been selected as one of 100 schools to take part in a trial of the revised MICRA-T standardised test in English by Mary Immaculate College of Education in Limerick, in order to take account of the changes in the new Primary Language Curriculum. Pupils in all classes from 2nd to 6th will complete the test in school on a trial basis. No pupil names are required and the completed tests will be returned to the publisher for scoring and analysis.

Mindful Tuesday

Mindful Tuesday – (the second and last Tuesday of every month)

We are rolling out an exciting new initiative in our school: Mindful Tuesday. On Mindful Tuesday, the children have a homework free night! Instead of doing homework, we encourage you and your child/family to engage in an activity that promotes positive mental health.

Here are some ideas / suggestions…

Technology free night

 Family play a board game together
 Family walk
 Cycling
 Baking/cooking together
 Family sit down to have dinner together
 Swimming
 Read a book together
 Take your pet for a walk
 Play a sport together
 Do a family project on a topic of interest
 Play a musical instrument
 Listen to music
 Dance
 Take up a new hobby
 Play a card game/charades/jigsaw
 Gardening
 Do an art activity

If you have any ideas we’d love to hear them, and we welcome photos and samples of art, baking, writing etc done!! Each child will have a very small exercise to complete which will explain which activity they did for Mindful Tuesday.

School Garden

We are lucky to have a beautiful school garden complete with polytunnel for the children to visit and do some planting activities in their individual class plots. Our school garden is the envy of other schools thanks to Brigid Judge and her team of Volunteers for giving of their time and energy. The children really enjoy having their own class plots and engaging in seasonal planting activities. It is a very positive outdoors activity which also promotes wellbeing among children and adults. If you have an interest in gardening or have some free time to come in and help with planting and maintenance of our school garden, we would love you to get involved! Please contact Martina in the school office and she will put you in touch with the School Garden Committee.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

The dates have now been agreed for the Parent/Teacher meetings which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 19th and 20th of November outside of school hours. The school will close 15 minutes early at 2.30pm on Tuesday 19th November in order to facilitate these meetings. Your child’s class teacher will be in contact with you shortly in order to arrange an appointment after school on either Tuesday 19th or Wednesday 20th November in which to meet to discuss your child’s progress in school

Primary Language Curriculum

We have been notified of our whole-staff seminar of professional support which will take place on Thursday, 21st November. Please be advised that Rathmore N.S. will be closed on that day.
