Witch Walk

The Green Schools Committee will hold their annual “Witch Walk” (non-uniform day) on Friday 25th October 2019. On this day all children are invited to dress up in a Halloween Theme coming to school. Weather permitting, a short walk around the school grounds will take place for each class in their seasonal outfits.

In keeping with our Green Schools Recycling Aims, children are encouraged to make some part/all of their dress-up outfit from homemade/recyclable materials rather than buying a commercially produced costume and donate 1 on the day. Some simple suggestions may include old clothes, old costumes, recyclable materials and using cardboard boxes.

We encourage parents/guardians to assist your child to take part in what we hope will be an enjoyable and fun-filled experience for all. We know everyone will make a big effort and we look forward to seeing your costumes, so be creative!

This year, Rathmore N.S. will be working towards the next Green Schools flag ” Global Citizenship and the Marine Environment”. We would really like the whole school to get involved in helping us achieve this flag. We kindly ask if children could start bringing in plastic bottle tops (orange, blue, green, black, purple and red) to Ms Shaw and Ms Brady of the Green Schools Committee for our marine environment display.)

Primary Debating Festival

The pupils in Mr. Collier’s 6th class and Ms. Malone’s 5th class have entered the 2019/2020 Primary Schools’ Debating Festival celebrating the power of language. The competition is organised by Kildare Education centre in partnership with Kildare County Library Service and is run in collaboration with Concern worldwide. Last year’s competition was of a very high standard and demonstrated that debating can help self-confidence, promote active listening and provide a platform for the use of skills such as analysis, deductive reasoning and flexible thinking. We will be entering a team of six pupils made up of pupils from 5th and 6th classes to represent Rathmore N.S. and we wish them every success!
